Though the 1958 version is a better story the 1967 film is a lot more believable. Mars is certainly responsible with the evolution of the human race, with it now being a dormant planet as oppose to dead. If we eventually get there we will be faced with many surprises, and an explanation of why we always fear the planet. It is our true home world.

Superb work of the imagination, brought to life by fine acting and, for it's time and budget, great effects.

The serial itself is great.
Whoever JoeSchmo is, they really need to get a life and not turn everything into their own forum to rant about their political views. It shows the very sad, narrow dimensions of their own mind. Good Lord. Turn off the TV, go outside, and get some fresh air before you end up shooting yourself, for God's sake.

Holds up well for an early production -- suspenseful, surprising plot twists, decent effects.

Especially relevant in 2020. Frightening metaphor for the ills of the ultra right to maintain world wide white supremacy by marginalizing those they deem inferior. Trump the ultimate alien.

Subject: Nigel Kneale - Script Writer Extraordinaire
It’s pretty amazing that this premise made it onto 1950’s television. The script writer was Nigel Kneale (BBC). The network’s policy to erase/recycle master tapes means that most of his work is gone. What a loss. His characters and dialog are so realistic. His plots use ”expanded” time TV to unfold gradually - slowly building to a potent climax. He also wrote The Stone Tape (1972). Masterful. Find all of Nigel’s work. You won’t be disappointed.

Having recently watched the disappointing 1988 film version of this great BBC drama, what a pleasure to find that you can still enjoy the original final episode with its electrifying climax rather than the ill-conceived, 'revised', ending. Definitely a case, I think, of leaving well enough alone!
